Painting and Ponderings From The Studio of The Homeless Finch

in progress
In the studio today working on a few paintings.  Been very contemplative about the Homeless Finch today too.  I love my work. I love writing a blog too.  I don't like promoting it.  Nope. Don't. Promoting a blog is time consuming and arduous for me.  But why have a blog if no one is reading it. Right? I don't know.

in progress
Do you ever think like this? Second guess why you do things.  If you write a blog, do you question why you write it? If I never posted to another linky party again, would people find me?  Are there other ways to get my words out there that are less time consuming?  Do I even have the time to explore them?  Should I care?  What is my blog suppose to be?... for me?  What are my expectations now that I have been blogging long enough to understand the great parts and the not so great parts? Do my followers actually read my blog?  Wondering....pondering...

"Be who you are and say what you feel,
because those who mind don't matter
and those who matter don't mind."

Totally understand your feelings. I would like to think that most bloggers have the same thoughts. I certainly do. You are not alone. I wouldn't worry so much about promoting it, if that is unenjoyable for you. I mean, is the goal to share projects and ideas that are important to you, or is it more important to have hoards of people "following?" I bet bloggers with 10,000 followers still wonder why only 150 people leave comments :)

I agree with Carolyn ...she is very right. Just do what feel right.. for you.. day that ...sometimes I'm feeling very interactive-y and sometimes I just want to not interact so I don't. life goes on and actually Im finding that I'M getting better at interacting and enjoying the blogging more than I did at first.

yep! you read my mind ~ I have asked the same thing ~ yet here I am ~ I doing this because I loved to write, sketch, paint, do photography (other blog) and decided I am not into being a 'big time' blogger ~ PPF helps and a few others I have connected with ~ I would rather me 'kindred spirits' like minded people like yourself ~ and that is what is enjoyable for me ~ So ~ blog on ~ we ARE reading it and enjoying your creativity and art work ~ which is wonderful, by the way ~ namaste, Carol (Share the Creative Journey) Happy PPF ^_^

I like your middle WIP very much. As for the blogging, I have found by viewing the stats, that more people look than comment. Before I joined PPF, I rarely got a comment on this blog. I am in a number of challenges and get comments there on my blogspot blog.

a very thoughtful and thought provoking post. i know exactly what you mean. i blogged initially because i wanted to try to make a career out of my art. a year and a couple of commissions later, i'm still working full time as a secretary! i love blgging but use to get stressed if i didnt blog every couple of days until i realised i was spending more time on the comuter than actually doing art! i still like to blog and meet likeminded folk in cyberspace but if i don't blog for a week or two, the world won't end!
great works in progress by the way. i love the dark aspect to them and look foreard to seeing them completed.

I totally agreee with everyone about time on the computer etc. I do love your wip's. They are going to be very nice when completed. Happy PPF!

Your work in progress are fantastic! We all ask ourselves the same questions...I've just decided to do what I want when I want and if it works out it will :)

I know how you feel. I spend much too much time posting than I do creating. I just want to share my art, not the writing.

We've all been there. I used to worry about things like relatives reading my blog and rolling their eyes and such, but life is short. Do what YOU want. I think of my blog as my "magazine" and I'M the publisher. I have that Dr. Suess quote on my sidebar to remind me of that thought each and every time I publish a post.

I think we all have stages like this and at the end of the day I figure I would miss it if I didn't do it. I love the creative community of it and think that a lot more people read than comment... my stats show that... but at times I feel just the way you do... thanks for sharing xx

Oh those questions. Very thoughtful and hard to answer. Sometimes I feel like my blog drains my soul...and other times I get such fulfillment and fun out of it. It certainly is a roller coaster. The time and promotion part is a killer for everyone I think. I wish I didn't have a "real job." But I do so blogging is a hobby I guess. If you ever figure anything out let us know! Have a good weekend...

Blogging can definitely take up too much time - much more fun to paint. Don't give up though and thanks for visiting mine!

Wonderful WIPs! Your questions are thought provoking. I've just started my blog 28 days ago. I still get so excited every time someone decides to follow me and my art! Happy PPF!

nice works in progress! I've decided I blog to express myself mostly and am happy if I happen to meet new people along the way!

I agree with the others here. Blogging should be fun, and YOUR blog is where YOU write and share what YOU like. Period. If someone doesn't like it - see Dr. Seuss. I love this quote, one of my favorites.

I understand what you mean re-blogging- for me its a re-evaluation continuously,
what i like about having an art blog, is that i can let the picture be the post

I am loving the textures in your works in progress!

Why do we blog - I often wonder - a need to be popular? A way of communicating with new people? A diary? Something of our small life out there in cyberspace?

I like to meet new people and see what they are creating and my family likes me to blog my creations and my thoughts....

It's individual to all of us I think. I recently had a six month break from blogging and didn't miss it as much as I thought but my family and friends missed my blog and that felt nice.

Love your textural art.

The new painting looks great, can't wait to see what it becomes.
I blog because it's so easy to look back and see my work evolve, and between that and iPhoto there is a record of what I was painting or photographing almost down to the day or hour.

The question to ask yourself is, are you blogging for yourself or for others....are you looking for validation, do you need a huge following or do you blog because it's something you enjoy or a way to keep track of your progress.

Lovely WIPs!

I'm still not sure of the WHY of blogging but I know I enjoy it and it keeps me doing artful activities. Without the ability to share the results (seen or unseen), I find I don't do as much.

Your works in progress are very interesting, I hope you show them to us when you are done. I often wonder the same questions as you. Blogs are time consuming to promote but isn't that why we participate?

very thought provoking ... sure blogging is time consuming, but it is a part of my world that I can control. I can do what I want. I can step back and like it, or rework it. It's another way that I can express myself ... not sure how many folks I am touching, but if what I say and do makes a difference to 1 person and makes that 1 person smile ... I've accomplished my goal :)

Well we have talked about this. do what you love and let people find you. You have so much talent that people will be drawn in. That is way I think my thank you party is going to catch on. To many people feel the same way. There really isn't work to it. Can't wait to feature you and your fabulous work!

I am S.FL too. It does tend to make you ask questions like these. Love to see the progression of the work. Thanks for sharing. Blessings, Janet

Your works in progress are very lovely. It seems you have many a kindred spirit NOT only in art but also with blogging and the question to keep at it or not. Just share yourself and let the rest fall where it may as long as it brings you happiness.

I love that quote! I just got that in an email forward last week too so it must be something the universe is trying to tell me,lol! Yes I very mush ask myself the same questions you are asking about blogging!Especially with a full time job where we are on overtime ( 9 hour days and a commute too!) so I'm thinking of cutting back to doing every other PPF for a while instead of every week. It is soooooo fun though hopping around, I admit its an addiction but a very healthy one and very inspiring! Love your work by the way!Sorry I'm so late, it's almost time for the next one tomorrow, lol! Deb
